Celebration of Irish Music
Featuring the 36th annual Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy 2008

Days 1 - 2
The celebration begins with a two-night sojourn in the beautiful town of Kenmare, nestled in a glacial valley and surrounded by MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Ireland’s tallest mountains. Wander about this lovely town (a frequent National Tidy Towns winner), and join us as we explore the magnificent wonders of the nearby Beara Peninsula. • Today we’ll take a wild and scenic walk along the Kerry Way through the heart of Killarney National Park, Ireland’s largest remaining preserve of native woodlands. Ramble down old droving roads past crashing waterfalls, towering mountains and herds of native Irish red deer. Our final destination is the palatial Muckross House and Gardens, the centerpiece of the National Park.

Days 3 - 4
Gorgeous coastal scenery, sandy beaches and cliff-bound coves are the setting for our next two-night stay on the Corca Dhuibhne (Dingle Peninsula), a well-known Gaeltacht where Irish is still the first language. Discover the charms of
Dingle with a day free to wander amidst the colorful streets, cafes and pubs. You’re bound to hear the sounds of traditional music coming from one of the more than 50 pubs in Dingle! • The Dingle Peninsula is rife with walks and history to discover, so we’ll take an archeology tour and select from a number of favorite walks along the way –a hike up Mt. Eagle, the Pilgrim’s path to Mt. Brandon, or along Ballydavid Head.

Days 5 - 6
Traversing Connor Pass, we head north across the mighty River Shannon to Co. Clare, where we’ll make our home for the next three nights by the ocean in
Doolin, a tiny hamlet that is synonymous for traditional Irish music! We start our walks in Clare with a breathtaking hike along the towering Cliffs of Moher, followed by a visit to Saint Brigid’s Well, a venerable holy site. Then get set for “Willie Week,” as the locals call it, and some great craíc! There’ll be music and dancing galore. • Today we commence our exploration of the Burren, Clare’s limestone wonderland of ancient forts and rare flora, with visits to some of the many fascinating sites that dot the famous lunar-like landscape. We’ll immerse you fully into this magical region with guided walks featuring natural and local history. Today’s outing features the classic hill walk over Black Head, with spectacular views of Galway Bay.

Days 7 - 8
A summer of walking wouldn’t uncover the Burren’s many mysteries, so our journey continues with a variety of walks such as the archeology trail at Dysert O’Dea, the green road over Ailwee Mountain or similar hidden pathways off the beaten track. Also included in the menagerie of interesting sites to explore are colorful villages like Kilfenora, Corofin and Lisdoonvarna. • After a hearty Irish breakfast we’ll see you to Shannon, where you’ll receive our heart-felt “Slan Abhaile” for your journey onwards or back home.
