The Big Loop of the Big Bend
Days 1 - 2
The adventure starts Sunday evening in historic Ft.
Davis with our welcoming banquet at the historic Limpia
Hotel. The following morning well head for the
border, riding through Marfa and Shafter en route to Presidio,
one of the oldest continually inhabited communities in North
America.
Days 3 - 4
Today we ride El Camino de Real, the River Road,
from Presidio to the resort community of Lajitas,
nestled on the Rio Grande. A striking blend of mountains,
canyons, and river valley, National Geographic once called
this stretch of highway the prettiest drive in all America.
Plus youll get the view from what folks just call the
Big Hill. Well stay two nights in Lajitas,
so hit the recline button and relax. Choose from a number
of options a river trip, horseback riding, a side trip
to Mexico, even a round of golf in the desert!
Days 5 - 6
Our route now turns northward as we pedal through the famous
ghost town of Terlingua and on into the realm of Big
Bend National Park. Well choose from routes through
the Christmas or Chisos Mountains and be rewarded with a two-night
stay at a popular guest lodge. Weve slated another
day to explore the many fascinating trails in the national
park, sample short rides in the area, or just kick back and
enjoy the view from The Window in the Chisos Basin.
Days 7 - 8
Saturday well continue northward out of the park through
Persimmon Gap, and on to Marathon.
There youll luxuriate in the sumptuous ambiance of the
legendary Gage Hotel, and prepare for our final banquet together.
Sunday morning you can pedal or shuttle back to Ft.
Davis.
